Online Instruction:
Art Technique Demo
COURSE: Visual Personal Narrative (online/asynchronous)
CONTENT: Basic Visual Communication theory; hands-on creative projects; coherent self expression
STUDENTS: Some or no experience with visual arts/materials/techniques
CHALLENGES: Demonstrating basic art techniques using common materials - Recorded (or Live) demos are long and tedious; students of diverse experience/confidence
SOLUTIONS: I complete the self portrait assignment alongside students. Each day I upload a short (5 to 10 minutes) "demo" video. Rather than record the demo in real-time, I use a pre-recorded video played in fast motion, starting and stopping as I talk through the basic techniques and design process; I provide final self-portrait jpegs for student examination and ideation.
