An important goal of conservation work is to remind people of their connections to the rest of the natural world.

It can be easy for human beings to forget we're not outside natural systems. Any sense of separateness is an illusion. We're embedded in the world like all creatures.

Roughly 1 in 5 reptile species are presently threatened with imminent extinction. For amphibians the crisis is even more dire, at 1 in 3. Many more populations are in decline and may be facing extinction as well.

Conservation organizations around the globe are rushing to organize and cooperate to understand these catastrophic declines, and to develop strategies to help.
